I'm looking for Round Robin Backup Rotation, with One Media will be assigned for Full Backup on Friday and 6 medias, each respectively used on remaining week days with incremental backup. Every Friday backup should allow the media to overwrite the previous full backup and Every Saturday incremental backup should overwrite the previous incremental backups. How can I achieve this requirement.

I have been having some trouble getting the NVBU client working with iptables enabled. With windows firewall this is pretty straight forward to allow the different NVBU services access through the firewall, but I don't think you can do this with iptables. I have tried opening ports 20031 - 20106 for both TCP and UDP. When I setup this rule I am able to see the client in client management and make the initial connections, but I am unable to see the properties of browse with the filesystem plugin. I have also tried setting these ports in the firewall tab of both server and client and setting the client to outside firewall. I have not been able to find a KB article regarding the specific ports needing to be opened to allow the client to function with iptables enables. If I disable iptables the client works immediately.

we are using Job E-Mail Notification in NetVault. Is there a possibility to extend the level of information provided by the E-Mail Notfication Service?
Job completed with warnings isn´t very much. It would be helpful to get information about the warnings in the E-Mail then to need to look inside the Software.
Is that possible?

I have this one server that has been acting up. I was informed that we can install Netvault as a last ditch effort and reinstall it, then add the client in the Client Management area, I get a message that says:
"Client 'servername' is not responding. NetVault must be active before the client may be added.
The client service is running on both client and server side. i can ping the server as well. When I go into the "Show Details", I get this:

I've got a linux server running Netvault 8.2.2
I've installed the client on a linux box.
When I click on the client from the server, it says:" No plugins available on client"
Basically there is a large amount of data on the client that I want to back up, and I want to schedule regular incremental and full backups. @500GB of data reside on the client.
It seems to me that the next step would be to install something like a Unix File system plugin, and then I should be able to back up my files. I don't have a support contract with Netvault, so I'm hoping they'll give me access to the plugin.
I've taken a good look at the Getting Started Guide and the Administrators guide but it's not entirely clear to me if this is all that needs to be done. Before I call Quest, am I missing anything? Should I ask for some other plugins?

Customer is not able to restore data from an NDMP backup (on netapp filer) on secondary copy.
Phase 1 of backup is made to a phisical tape drive and the phase 2 is made to a second tape drive of same library.
If customer try to restore from first copy it works. If try from the second copy the error "NDMP data does not start on a block boundary" appears.
It seems a blocksize problem but both drives are equally configured.

I am a current NetBackup user and I am looking into other products. I am hoping to get some feedback from current Netvault users as to what they think of NetVault. The problem I have with NetBackup is that it is unintuitive and overly complex for our needs. For example, having to use the CLI to fix many issues (including simple tasks) is a major drawback to Netbackup in my opinion. If I only managed DR this might be OK (although I would still look for something better), but I need something that is more streamlined and easier to use. The only reason Netbackup was chosen as our backup product was due to it's support of Oracle RAC
Things I am primarily focused on are ease of use and implementation.
If anyone has used Netbackup in the past and can offer a direct comparison that would be great, otherwise what do you think of Netvault in general?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggested Configurator or Drive settings for Netvault to increase performance of a Server with 20+ million small text files on it and it is taking about 30 hours to backup 600 GB. The server is using SAN storage. I currently dont have the server configured as a smart client, but I do have another similar server that is, and it doesnt perform much better when it comes to a large amount of small files (it is speedy on large databases and such tho)

I'm new to NetVault Backup. I need information about license Creation for the products and plugins we purchased.
We have got NVBU server running on Windows 2012 Server which is also an Additional domain controller. We need to create and apply the license for MS SQL Server Ent. Ed. Cluster Plugin, While License Key creation which Machine ID and Hostname Should i provide?.(Backup server Machine ID or Cluster Nodes NVBU Machine ID). Also SQL Cluster is running in active-active mode with two different Instances on two cluster nodes.
Also for Share point Ent. Ed plugin which Machine ID and Machine name (NVBU Backup Server or MS Share Point Server)should be provided for creation of License Key?. Share Point Application is also running in two different nodes.
Any help would be appreciated.

We are unable to take Postgresql 9.x backup using Postgresql APM 3.0, and able to take backup of Postgresql 9.x using postgresql APM 2.3, but restoration is showing below errors in Netvault logs.
could not found a "pg_restore" to execute
pg_restore: invalid option -- N
Try "pg_restore --help" for more information
Kindly let me know that Anybody is taking postgreSQL 9.x backup successfully ?

Recently a NetVault Backup user asked us how to use the CLI to restore to an alternate server. To do this, you'll need to run the following:
C:\Program Files\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\util>nvsetcreate -setname restore1 -type RS -client "NVBU_Server" -plugin "File System" -saveset 447 -include "C:\netvault3" -restoretarget "SQL_Server_Prod"
Created set 'restore1'
Once the set is created, you can load it via the GUI and it does indeed have the other client targeted. However, you still need to use nvjobcreate to create the job via CLI and then nvjobstart to kick off the job. This will do the trick.
C:\Program Files\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\util>nvjobcreate -servername "NVBU_Server" -jobtitle testrestore -type restore -selectionsetname restore1

Selection tab - Datacopy - Backup sets
Backup option tab - Copy a full backup ... - Use optimized replication ...
Schedule tab - Immediatelly
Source tab - local NVSD
Target tab - offsite NVSD
Advanced tab - Enable deuplication
When this job start then data are moved to destination NVSD through NVBU Server and not directly between NVSD's.
Job processed whole data (not deduplicated) to destination NVSD.
Have we any error in job configuration? Or NVSD need any special configuration for this use?

and go through all the steps.
- the server and client can ping each other
- both server and client can telnet to each other
- firewall has been disable
- both forward and reverse lookup are working for server and client
but i'm still unable to add client to my netvault server

I am looking at that and am new to NetVault. When I look at the current schedule, it's setup to run on M, W, F at 8PM on a repeating schedule. Does that mean I have to edit the whole job? If so, is there a way to use a trigger option and have it run on the same schedule? If so, what is the best recommended way? We are running NetVault Backup 8.21 Build 10.

what is the best praktice for shared memory with oracle apm 6.0.19 in NetVault ?
we have set it up to 128000 but nothing is changing. (Configurator, Tab "Process Manager", Tab Process Table)
Shared Memory (Kb) Used for Process Table: 128000
Shared Memeory (Kb) Allocated to the trace Buffer of Each Process: 7
Shared Memory (Kb) Allocated to a Progress Buffer: 1
Number of Progress Buffers Available to Plugins: 100
Memory in the Client: 16GB RAM
Sometimes backups have an error, while netvault and oracle use the same shared memory.
What can we do?

let me explain my configuration on workstation client. Mainly my requiremnt is to get all the desktops and laptops data to central shadow area.
(stoarge location which allocate the permissions acordingly)
there are workstations with windows xp and windows 7.
always install netvault client package from local administrator account.
i am configuring worstation client console with the current user(require to backup). after configuring everything on the console it prompt for authontication to save the config file.
here i am giving one user with administrative permissions.(ex user1@123.com) and the password. i created this user because everytime laptop user change their
password i have to reconfigure the WC console, to avoid this i create this common user
. also i am authonticating all my WC console with this user name and password.
for this setup there is a manual job to get the backup of all the data which sync to the tape.
problem with this is initial sync will happen but sometime it's stops. 
1. what are the reccomended methord of configuring Workstation client?
2. did any one experiance the same issue?

I am a newbee here, but have some troubles with NetVault 8.53.
some backup jobs died, because former schedule set lost - or relation link to it lost in backup job...
so I tried to create the schedule set with same name, but I got a error similar to "save not possible - set already exists " but the set would not shown
in set-selection for choosing in backup job...
maybee NetVault database is korrupt? - how to check / solve this??
recover fix database - how could this be done?
every hint is welcome
