NVBU CLI Restore to an Alternate Server

Recently a NetVault Backup user asked us how to use the CLI to restore to an alternate server. To do this, you'll need to run the following:

 

C:\Program Files\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\util>nvsetcreate -setname restore1 -type RS -client "NVBU_Server" -plugin "File System" -saveset 447 -include "C:\netvault3" -restoretarget "SQL_Server_Prod"

Created set 'restore1'

 

Once the set is created, you can load it via the GUI and it does indeed have the other client targeted. However, you still need to use nvjobcreate to create the job via CLI and then nvjobstart to kick off the job. This will do the trick.

 

C:\Program Files\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\util>nvjobcreate -servername "NVBU_Server" -jobtitle testrestore -type restore -selectionsetname restore1

Submitting job...

Waiting for confirmation that job was submitted successfully....

Job successfully submitted!

job 'testrestore' has been assigned the job id '640'

 

C:\Program Files\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\util>nvjobstart -jobid 640

Library lost!Backup Status:No Suitable Drive or Media Available.

Recently，I found a strange question on the NetVault Backup:Sometimes the Library was lose,and Backup Status:No Suitable Drive or Media Available.

The log didn't have errors,just warning like that:No Suitable Drive or Media for job xx instance xx.The detail,you can see the attachment.

 

Somedays ago(for one year),every job was right to backup,I didn't know how to happen this problem.

Dose someone know the problem?

Get a complete file list of backed up files

I neither found a tool to query media or media sets to create a reliable complete list of files curently stored on all backup media.
Really the best would be a command line, querying the NetVault Database (, which I could not find a word about in the documentation).

 

Anyone here, who knows, how to do?

Using 9.11 Build 1 Rel R2013JUN05-LIMA on ubuntu server x64 12.04.4

Workstation Client Backup

hello everyone,

 

let me explain my configuration on workstation client. Mainly my requiremnt is to get all the desktops and laptops data to central shadow area.

(stoarge location which allocate the permissions acordingly)

 

there are workstations with windows xp and windows 7.

 

always install netvault client package from local administrator account.

 

i am configuring worstation client console with the current user(require to backup). after configuring everything on the console it prompt for authontication to save the config file.

here i am giving one user with administrative permissions.(ex user1@123.com) and the password. i created this user because everytime laptop user change their

password i have to reconfigure the WC console, to avoid this i create this common user. also i am authonticating all my WC console with this user name and password.

 

for this setup there is a manual job to get the backup of all the data which sync to the tape.

 

problem with this is initial sync will happen but sometime it's stops.

 

1. what are the reccomended methord of configuring Workstation client?

2. did any one experiance the same issue?

vmware plug-in restore - how to reallocate VM?

It is possible to reallocate VM to alternate target ESXi when this alternate ESXi host is attached to vCenter? I found somwhere that I have to disassociate this host, but I don´t want to do it.

Errors Netvault Backup

Hello everybody,

 

I have any problems about the Netvault Backup Software, what means these problems please ? I don't understand where is located the problems and how can i resolve it, i don't know the cause which trigger these problems.

 

Problems :

 

"Fatal error processing children of..."

"Media Request Failed...."

"Failed to prepare for an incremental backup.."

"Failed error writing backed up data..."

"Plugin had gone down"

Netvault License Clarification

Hi,

 

We have installed and working with Netvault Backup Setup in our Datacenter.

We are planning to establish the same setup in our DR.

We have ordered Netvault License for both DC and DR in a single order.

We have received only one Server License Number, that is being used for Datacenter Netvault Backup.

How to create license key for DR site Netvault backup with same Server License Number.

Desktop Backup to Net vault ......

Normally I install on the Windows SQL Server, Windows Exchange Server and Windows FS Servers to backup to Tapes using Netvault Server ( Backup Server ). I'm think to install one few "important desktop" .... will it still work ? Thanks

E-mail notification Subject line provide ability to include Job Title

It doens't seem to make much sense for the email to list the backup server name in the subject field and not the job title.  This used to be a customizable option but has since been removed.  Please add this functionality back.

Hello,

 

i try to setup a second notification based on email. I have a notification configured on a scheduled report and send by mail to a mailing list. Me, i want to create a new email notification, in order to receive others reports without changing the NV variable define in configurator.

 

I look into the scripts folder, the sysmail.bat:

"%NVHOME%\util\nvsendmail" -n

 

I try to change this by:

"%NVHOME%\util\nvsendmail" -d <my_email>

 

 

Unfortunately it doesn't work...

 

Someone tries this before? Did he find a solution??

how can I send an attachment (Report) to an additional user

Hi members,

 

at first: happy new your @ all and always a good backup!

 

I've a question about attachments inside an E-Mail notification.

 

We use NV 8.5.3 and there's no problem to create the reports for the admin or an additional user. works fine.

But how can I send an attachment (e.g. "Media Quotas And Usage") within the report E-Mail?

NDMP data does not start on a block boundary

Customer is not able to restore data from an NDMP backup (on netapp filer) on secondary copy.

 

Phase 1 of backup is made to a phisical tape drive and the phase 2 is made to a second tape drive of same library.

 

If customer try to restore from first copy it works. If try from the second copy the error "NDMP data does not start on a block boundary" appears.

 

 

It seems a blocksize problem but both drives are equally configured.

How to determine the installed SmartDisk architecture (64bit or hybrid)?

Hi,

 

I want to update our SmartDisk hosts to the latest version. Now for every OS I have to chose a download for one out of three different architectures, 32bit, 64bit and a hybrid. I guess we don't have 32bit anymore, but how to decide between the 64bit and the hybrid version? How can I determine which architecture is currently installed? On newer versions I can "cat /usr/smartdisk/RELEASEDEF" or /opt/smartdisk/RELEASEDEF and see linux-x86_Pure64 or smartdisk-solaris-x86_64. But on older versions, namely 1.2.2 and 1.2.0 there is no such file.

Job E-Mail Notification - Information level

Dear comminity,

 

we are using Job E-Mail Notification in NetVault. Is there a possibility to extend the level of information provided by the E-Mail Notfication Service?

Job completed with warnings isn´t very much. It would be helpful to get information about the warnings in the E-Mail then to need to look inside the Software.

 

Is that possible?

Add as client gives "not responding" error.

I have this one server that has been acting up.  I was informed that we can install Netvault as a last ditch effort and reinstall it, then add the client in the Client Management area, I get a message that says:

 

"Client 'servername' is not responding.  NetVault must be active before the client may be added.

 

The client service is running on both client and server side.  i can ping the server as well.  When I go into the "Show Details", I get this:

Backup Selections

I'm sure this is a simple one but I can't seem to find the correct information in the help...

 

How to I create a job that will back up only a specific file type from a folder? I have some Veeam backup that produce full backup files *.vbk and incremental files *.vib. When I do my full backup I would like to only inlcude the *.vbk from the folder. The file names change based on date so I can't physically select the required files before the backup.

 

Any help appreaciated.

Shared Memory

what is the best praktice for shared memory with oracle apm 6.0.19 in NetVault ?

we have set it up to 128000 but nothing is changing. (Configurator, Tab "Process Manager", Tab Process Table)

 

Shared Memory (Kb) Used for Process Table: 128000

Shared Memeory (Kb) Allocated to the trace Buffer of Each Process: 7

Shared Memory (Kb) Allocated to a Progress Buffer: 1

Number of Progress Buffers Available to Plugins: 100

 

Memory in the Client: 16GB RAM

 

 

Sometimes backups have an error, while netvault and oracle use the same shared memory.

 

What can we do?

Newbie - simple question about Netvault client/backup

Hello,

 

I've got a linux server running Netvault 8.2.2

I've installed the client on a  linux box.

 

When I click on the client from the server, it says:" No plugins available on client"

 

Basically there is a large amount of data on the client that I want to back up, and I want to schedule regular incremental and full backups. @500GB of data reside on the client.

 

It seems to me that the next step would be to install something like a Unix File system plugin, and then I should be able to back up my files. I don't have a support contract with Netvault, so I'm hoping they'll give me access to the plugin.

 

I've taken a good look at the Getting Started Guide and the Administrators guide but it's not entirely clear to me if this is all that needs to be done. Before I call Quest, am I missing anything? Should I ask for some other plugins?
