could 82% usage / usage caused backup to fail?

netvault backup 8.50 build 39 on CentOS 5.3

 

on a / partition with 64GB total space, 55GB usage where 38GB is /usr/netvault/db caused backups to tape failed?

 

i found on log warning messages on backup server

Oracle APM RMAN fails Cannot validate the selected NetVault Advanced Options Set

Hi

 

   I just installed netvault client into a Oracle Database.

 

oracle 11g 11.2.0.3

RedHat 6.4 64 bits

ASM

 

So, i configure Oracle APM for a Rman backup and i cant catch all tablespaces, so i assume then setup is fine.

But when i run job, it works too fast. Netvault don't said me nothing, but when i execute netvault rman script i got this:

Performance Tuning Suggestions

I was wondering if anyone had any suggested Configurator or Drive settings for Netvault to increase performance of a Server with 20+ million small text files on it and it is taking about 30 hours to backup 600 GB. The server is using SAN storage. I currently dont have the server configured as a smart client, but I do have another similar server that is, and it doesnt perform much better when it comes to a large amount of small files (it is speedy on large databases and such tho)

Need help with a trigger event

We have a couple servers that are giving an error.  I saw this support article:  https://support.quest.com/Search/SolutionDetail.aspx?ID=SOL81422

 

I am looking at that and am new to NetVault.  When I look at the current schedule, it's setup to run on M, W, F at 8PM on a repeating schedule.  Does that mean I have to edit the whole job?  If so, is there a way to use a trigger option and have it run on the same schedule?  If so, what is the best recommended way?  We are running NetVault Backup 8.21 Build 10.

 

I don't have a test environment and appreciate any and all help.

Newbie - simple question about Netvault client/backup

Hello,

 

I've got a linux server running Netvault 8.2.2

I've installed the client on a  linux box.

 

When I click on the client from the server, it says:" No plugins available on client"

 

Basically there is a large amount of data on the client that I want to back up, and I want to schedule regular incremental and full backups. @500GB of data reside on the client.

 

It seems to me that the next step would be to install something like a Unix File system plugin, and then I should be able to back up my files. I don't have a support contract with Netvault, so I'm hoping they'll give me access to the plugin.

 

I've taken a good look at the Getting Started Guide and the Administrators guide but it's not entirely clear to me if this is all that needs to be done. Before I call Quest, am I missing anything? Should I ask for some other plugins?

Firewall exception for netvault client on win 2003 r2

I had added all netvault programs on windows firewall and all ports specified on netvault configurator's firewall tab but system check would failed with plugin died unexpedtedly

 

If i disabled windows firewall's service, access check would pass

Bug in Vmware Plug-in V2_1_80

I´m using a evauation copy of NVBU vers. 8.61 Build 9 for test purposes against my Vmware Server Esxi 5.10. First I used the Vmware Plug-in vers. V2_1_58 and the filelevel backup of my virtual machine (Win 2003 Sp2) works fine. So I tried to upgrade the Plug-in to the vers. V2_1_80 and the job returns me with completed with warining.

The warning  is 'the system cannot find the path specified'. This path has an very long directory structure more than 186 digits.

With the older version of the Plug-in works with the newer one not.

 

Any idea would be appreciate.

Now I am trying to copy 4 exchange protected databases (250G+ each) off cifs view so that I can use Recovery Manager to restore individual mailboxes and whichever method I try to use:

- network copying from samba and i get no more than 300Mbit/s and often times drops well bellow 100Mbit

- SFTP logged in as root, same problems, very slow, nothing even close to Gigabit

 

A kernel update on the system to update the ixgbe driver did help improve performance from 17MB/s to around 40MB/s .

 

Has anyone else experienced the same issues? I am curious because the environment is not that large, relatively speaking, but lots of data.

How can I see what backups take up the most space?

I'm curious to see which backups are using the most resources.  I have theories on which ones that may be doing this, but without seeing a definite answer, I wouldn't be sure.

 

How do I look in NetVault and see what servers take up the most space/use the most resources for storage?

I get the mesage "Cache too small". What means that message? Cache from what?

A Job aborting after this message sometimes.

I'm sure this is a simple one but I can't seem to find the correct information in the help...

 

How to I create a job that will back up only a specific file type from a folder? I have some Veeam backup that produce full backup files *.vbk and incremental files *.vib. When I do my full backup I would like to only inlcude the *.vbk from the folder. The file names change based on date so I can't physically select the required files before the backup.

 

Any help appreaciated.

NetVault Schedule set lost

Hello

 

I am a newbee here, but have some troubles with NetVault 8.53.

 

some backup jobs died, because former schedule set lost - or relation link to it lost in backup job...

 

so I tried to create the schedule set with same name, but I got a error similar to "save not possible - set already exists " but the set would not shown

in set-selection for choosing in backup job...

 

maybee NetVault database is korrupt? - how to check / solve this??

recover fix database - how could this be done?

 

every hint is welcome

performance issues on Netvault 8.1 managing SL500 libaray with 5 x LTO5 drives

Hello All,

Pls i need your assitance. I installed an oracle/sun SL500 tape libaray with 5 LTO5 drives, and the library is mannaged by quest netvault 8.0 and 8.1 at different location installed on X86_64 rhhel4u7 x3550 server. The libarary is connect to san brocade switch and the Storage filler where volumes resides is a Netapp storage,also connected to the SAN switch.

the Netvault is able to schedule job to drives at the same time, but two issues needs to be resolved.

1. The SL500 drives at native oerformance should be able to doe 140mbps data at native write, and when compressed it should varry. Its based on this that the customer upgraded from LT)4 drives tape libarray to Sl500., but when wriiting is done the performance speed is between 40mb/s to 57mbps, this varries for each drives when wriiting at once.

The tape drive performance test is ok. pls what can we do on the netvalt application for us to achieve high write performance.

 

2. If mutiple jobs are scheduled to all the drives, it sis expected that the catridge is removed for the next job to start, the tape media is not removed to the tape lib slots for new data tape to be reloaded into the drive.

Is there anything we can do to schedule this on netvault.

Migrating from tape backups to removable storage

Hi

 

We have as of today about 20 clients and we are running Netvault 8.6.1. Our tape library is about to be replaced by removable storage. Today we run DataCopy to archive-tapes that we move out of the building once a month and once every year we store a set of tapes in a bank vault. That works great but since our tape library is an old LTO-3 we are planning to create the same scenario using removable storage instead of tapes.

 

I have some questions regarding this:

 

  • Is it a good idea, do you know of any better way to solve the need for protecting the backups? We do have access to an offsite serverroom.
  • I have found the "Backup Implementation Guide Removable Storage", but ius there any other guides that I might have missed?
  • Can you recommend some hardware for the external drives? It is critical data that we need to store in a safe way.

 

We have volume based licensing so we access to basically all plugins for NetVault.
